RSHE

At Whitworth Park Academy, we believe every child should be supported to flourish personally, socially and academically. Through a high-quality, age-appropriate Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum, we equip children with the knowledge, skills and values they need to make confident, responsible and respectful choices throughout their lives.

Our RSHE curriculum helps children develop a strong understanding of themselves and others, building self-respect, empathy, resilience and emotional wellbeing. By exploring healthy relationships, personal safety, mental health and diversity, children gain the confidence and awareness to navigate the challenges and opportunities of modern life and contribute positively to their communities.

We ensure that children receive accurate, up-to-date information and develop the critical thinking skills needed to make informed decisions about relationships, health and wellbeing. Through meaningful discussion, reflection and enquiry, children learn to recognise influences, evaluate risks, understand their rights and responsibilities, and take increasing ownership of their personal development.

RSHE supports the whole child by addressing the social, emotional and physical aspects of growing up. It promotes respect, equality and inclusion, helping children understand the importance of consent, healthy boundaries and positive relationships. We are committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, safe and respected, regardless of their background, beliefs or identity.

Learning is designed to be engaging, relevant and responsive to the world around us. Children explore contemporary issues such as online safety, social media, artificial intelligence, mental health, discrimination, financial wellbeing and citizenship, enabling them to think critically, ask questions and develop informed opinions. The curriculum also covers key statutory content including healthy relationships, consent, sexual health, personal safety, substance misuse, physical health and emotional wellbeing. These topics are carefully mapped across each year group to ensure progression and build understanding over time. All RSHE lessons are delivered through the Wellio learning platform, which is fully aligned to statutory guidance, providing high-quality learning resources and ensuring a consistent and progressive curriculum across all year groups. Information from our curriculum mapping can be found in our PSHE Curriculum 26-27.

We maximise every learning opportunity by embedding RSHE throughout academy life, including tutor time, assemblies, enrichment activities and the wider curriculum. This consistent approach reinforces the values of respect, responsibility, safety and wellbeing, helping children develop the character and confidence needed to lead healthy, safe and fulfilling lives.
