Personal Development Overview
Our Personal Development (PD) programme is carefully designed to be coherent, progressive and responsive to the needs of our students. It provides the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to thrive both within school and beyond, preparing them for life in modern Britain and helping them become confident, responsible and active citizens.
Through our PD curriculum, students are supported to:
- Prepare successfully for future education, employment and adult life
- Develop strong character, confidence and self-belief
- Understand how to stay safe and make informed decisions
- Value themselves, their identity and their community
- Respect diversity and promote inclusion
- Build resilience and persevere when faced with challenges

Personal Development Provision
Personal Development is delivered through a carefully sequenced, whole-school programme that ensures all students receive a broad, balanced and meaningful experience. Key strands include:

Our curriculum is mapped from Year 7 to Year 11 to ensure clear progression in knowledge, understanding and personal growth. Important themes such as aspiration, safety, inclusion, wellbeing and resilience are revisited throughout a student’s journey, allowing them to deepen their understanding and apply their learning in increasingly complex contexts.
Delivery of the Personal Development Programme
Students access Personal Development through a range of complementary experiences, including:
- Timetabled Personal Development lessons delivered by trained staff
- A structured tutor programme that develops key life skills, promotes wellbeing, supports personal reflection and reinforces the school’s values and expectations
- Whole-school assemblies that reinforce key messages and themes
- Drop-down days focusing on careers, wellbeing, citizenship and personal safety
- Cross-curricular learning opportunities, including aspiration in English, online safety in Computing and inclusion in Humanities
- Workshops and presentations from external specialists, including police services, NHS professionals, mental health practitioners and careers advisers
To ensure high-quality delivery, staff receive regular training and professional development, enabling them to support children with confidence and consistency.

Enrichment and Cultural Capital
A rich programme of enrichment opportunities forms a central part of our Personal Development and SMSC provision. Students are encouraged to broaden their horizons and develop new interests through a wide range of experiences, including:
- Educational visits and residential trips
- Cultural experiences and visits
- Clubs, societies and sports activities
- Creative and performing arts opportunities
- Leadership roles and student voice initiatives
- Community partnerships and volunteering opportunities
These experiences help students develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally while strengthening confidence, independence and a sense of belonging. They encourage students to reflect on their place in the wider world, appreciate different perspectives and become active contributors to their communities.
