Vision

To provide an education that transforms lives by ensuring every child has the knowledge, skills, qualifications, and experiences that allow them to have choices for their futures. We support the whole child and every child to reach and surpass their potential, ensuring they are happy, valued, supported, and successful. The intent of for pupil premium children is to achieve excellence in all areas of learning including academically, emotionally and socially in order to improve life chances.

At Whitworth Park Academy we are committed to ensuring that all pupils are given the best chance to succeed. A personalised approach is at the heart of our practice with a focus on Quality First Teaching alongside bespoke support when required.

This will ensure:

  • Students receive inspirational and aspirational learning through high quality teaching.
  • Students are motivated and take responsibility for their own learning.
  • Students achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • All pupils develop and mature to be happy, healthy, and successful adults.

The main barriers that hinder learning and academic achievement of pupils in receipt of the pupil premium funding are

  • Gaps in learning in literacy and numeracy skills leading to gaps in attainment in English and Maths basics at the end of KS4.
  • Low attendance
  • Engagement in learning caused by social and emotional barriers
  • Limited access to resources e.g., books and IT resources

Pupil Premium funding has been used in a variety of ways at Whitworth Park to ensure the barriers that can hinder learning and academic achievement are removed. We have a clear aim of narrowing the attainment gap between advantaged and disadvantaged students in order to ensure that every student reaches their full potential. The impact of the pupil premium funding will be measured through the attainment and progress of pupils throughout their school life.

An upward trajectory is evident for both attainment and progress for children. In 2024 P8 for Disadvantaged pupils was -0.48. In 2025 this was increased to 0.14 representing a significant improvement of 0.62.

Average attainment for Disadvantaged children in 2024 was 37.1. In 2025 the average attainment increased to 43.3 showing an increase in the average grade achieved by Disadvantaged students.

The percentage of Disadvantaged children achieving the basics 9-5 in English and Maths has also increased. In 2024 18% of children achieved this measure whereas in 2025 38% of disadvantaged students achieved this. This is above the national average of 26%.

The percentage of Disadvantaged children achieving the basics 9-4 has also increased to 54% in 2025, a 24% increase from 2024. Significantly above the national average of 48%.
